TIA Members Elect 4 Board Members


The Tire Industry Association announced that its members had elected two incumbents, a newcomer and a past director to its 2022-2023 Board of Directors.

Russ Devens of McCarthy Tire Service, Wilkes-Barre, Penn., and TJ Trum of Pomp’s Tire Service Inc., Kansas City, Kan, were re-elected.

Gary MacCausland of VIP Tires & Service, Auburn, Maine, was elected to his first term, and after a three-year hiatus, 2019 TIA President John Evankovich of Sam’s Club Tire & Battery Centers in Bentonville, Ark. joined the council.

The new board members, who will serve three-year terms, were selected from a list of 13 candidates vying for the four vacancies, TIA says. Voting began in early July and ended September 1

The newly elected directors will take office on Monday, October 31, 2022, at TIA’s annual membership meeting prior to the opening of the Global Tire Expo/SEMA show in Las Vegas. They will join 14 other directors to form the Association’s 18-member Board.

Russell Devens – McCarthy Tire Service

Russ Devens, director of safety and risk management at McCarthy Tire Service, is currently a member of the TIA Board of Directors and has chaired the TIA Training and Education Committee for the past three years. He has over 30 years of experience in safety, law enforcement, security, insurance and risk management and is a TIA Level 400 Instructor for Commercial Tire Service. He is also a Certified Part 48 and Part 46 Instructor with the Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA), Certified 30-Hour General Industry with OSHA, and Certified Commercial Vehicle Inspector with the US DOT. Additionally, he is a co-founder of the Tire Industry Safety Leadership Summit. He conducts ongoing training, workplace safety assessments, emergency response, hazardous materials management and facility safety for more than 70 McCarthy Tire locations and 1,300 employees. He looks forward to continuing TIA’s mission to update and improve the association’s training programs. “Being a member and end user of all the programs gives me a real perspective on the value of training,” he said.

John Evankovich – Sam’s Club Tire and Battery Centers

John Evankovich is Director of Sam’s Club Tire and Battery Centers, overseeing more than 580 sales locations across the United States. He has worked at Sam’s Club for nearly 33 years, starting as a tire installation technician. In 2009, the company presented him with the Sam’s Club Achievement in Service Award for his outstanding contributions to customer experience, and four years later, he presented him with the Sam’s Club Carpe Diem Award for his achievements in consumer safety. and the workplace. He also received a certificate in Human Resources Employment Law and Practice. Evankovich, who served as TIA president in 2019, said his strengths lie in building relationships with stakeholders and working together to improve business operations to achieve common goals. He describes himself as a student of industry with a passion for consumer safety and environmental sustainability and is heavily involved in government relations.

Gary MacCausland – Tires and VIP Service

Gary MacCausland is Senior Vice President of Operations for VIP Tires & Service, one of North America’s largest retail tire dealerships with 65 locations at the end of 2021. His entire career has been dedicated to the profession of tire service,” with a huge focus on doing the right thing. He has over 35 years of experience overseeing multi-unit tire and service operations at companies such as NTW, Tire America , Sears, Merchants, NTB, Pep Boys and now VIP. He is described as “super passionate” about training and developing employees and was the lead at VIP to go “all-in” with TIA. VIP has two TIA Advanced Instructors, more than 40 TIA Certified Instructors and nearly 300 Certified Associates in Basic Automotive Tire Service and Advanced TPMS MacCausland currently serves on the Automotive Maintenance Repair Association (AMRA) Board of Directors. and its Motor Insurance Program (MAP). TJ Trum – Pomp’s Tire Service Inc.

TJ Trum is the General Counsel for Pomp’s Tire Service and a current member of the TIA Board of Directors, who currently chairs the association’s Government Affairs Committee and leads the association’s support of Trucker’s Against Trafficking. He also chairs the Human Resources and Safety Committee of the American Commercial Tire Network (ACTN) and is a Chartered Legal Counsel and Certified Senior Human Resources Professional by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-SCP). Trum has experience in the hybrid tire industry in legal, operational, safety and human resource matters. He is committed to the service leadership model that inspires leadership in the organizational structure and believes that proper engagement, staffing and training will be keys to success for dealerships in the industry.
