McClean’s Celebrates 30 Years of Community Service at Faughan Valley Gas Station

Renamed SPAR in 1991, the store employed many locals and increased its staff from five in the 1990s to over 16 in 2021. Manager Victoria Brandon leads this customer service focused team.

John McClean explained; “Since 1991 we have been providing essential services on the Glenshane route, which not only for our local community of Drumahoe, but also for those traveling between Derry and Belfast on the A6 main road. Over the years, we have continuously invested to modernize our store and keep it up to date for our buyers and motorists.

The local community also benefited from the store, with support going to Drumahoe Elementary School to provide sports day kits and donations from the store’s clothing bank. Students also let their creativity run wild with the store’s coloring contests to provide excellent artwork throughout the store.

Faghan Valley gas station owners Asrun and John McClean (center) are joined by team members (left to right) Samantha Cooke, Joshua Cunningham and Jenna Cooke as they celebrate 30 years serving the local community with SPAR NI and their store and services on the Glenshane Route.

To mark this milestone, John and Asrun received a commemorative plaque from the Henderson Group, owner of the SPAR brand in Northern Ireland.

Paddy Doody, Director of Sales and Marketing at Henderson Group added, “This is a fantastic milestone for the McClean’s to achieve. Their store has been providing convenient services to local shoppers for 30 years now with their impressive grocery and gas station offering on the busy A6 thoroughfare.

“On behalf of the Group, I would like to congratulate the entire team on its 30th anniversary. They are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the SPAR brand in Northern Ireland and it is a pleasure to have such successful companies as McClean’s as retail partners.
